8 Days Machame Route One benefit of the Machame route is its quick rise to relatively high elevations (10,000 ft/3,040 meters), and a short ascent to the Lava Tower site (15,000 ft/4,560 m) before descending back to Barranco Camp (12,700 ft/3,870 m) on the same day. This follows the climber's adage 'climb high, sleep low', and helps altitude acclimatization. The initial steep ascent also helps climbers acclimatize better. Day 1 - MoshiArrival at Kilimanjaro airport you will be met upon arrival and transferred to Moshi for the night. Dinner and overnight at Ameg Lodge Day 2:After breakfast, transfer to the Machame Gate where you will be met by the trekking staff. Begin the trek and ascend all the way to Machame Hut (3000m) for dinner and overnight. Day 3:After breakfast continue the trek through the increasingly sparse trees and bushes into moorland stopping to enjoy packed lunch all the way to Shira camp for dinner and overnight. Shira camp is a small plateau in the high moorland and features views of Kibo in the North West. Day 4:The trek of this day moves from the moorland into the alpine desert with fewer trees and more rocks. Trek to the highest point which is the base of the Lava Tower after which you descend to Barranco Valley. Enjoy packed lunch. Dinner and overnight at the camp Day 5:Start of with an ascent of Barranco wall crossing the Karanga river and finally joining up with Mweka route which leads to Barafu camp for dinner and overnight at the Day 6:Rise early for the summit attempt around midnight. You ascend to the Stella Point which is on a crater rim. The trail continues for around 30 minutes to Uhuru Peak. After taking photos, begin your descend back to Mweka camp for dinner and overnight.
